A roundup of various “Top Tools”, either found in 2013, or found to be extremely useful in 2013.

Favourite (mostly Network) Tools of 2013

  • Observium Observium is an rrdtool based graphing system. It features powerful auto discovery. It supports IPv6 where device MIBs support it.
  • nmap nmap is a network discovery tool. It can be used with scripts to check for dangerous defaults such as well known SNMP credentials, and open DNS resolvers. It supports IPv6 with a -6 flag.
  • Sublime Text Sublime Text is a cross platform (Win/Lin/OSX) text editor. It is nice looking, is very customizable, CLI friendly, and is very extensible.

Favourite Cloud Tools of 2013

  • Github GitHub is a (free) Git repo hosting site. I started using GitHub in a big way in 2013. They do not support IPv6 yet.

Favourite GitHub Projects of 2013

Favourite HTML5 Uses/Tools of 2013

  • HTML5up.net Makers of simple and beautiful HTML5/skeljs templates.
  • Bootstrap Bootstrap is a CSS toolkit open sourced by Twitter. This site uses a template based on Bootstrap.
  • Octopress Octopress is a blogging platform for hackers.
